The Layout

The extra large V-berth in forward cabin has a privacy door that separates it from the main cabin as well as a private door into the forward head and shower.   There is a lot of hanging locker space and drawers as well as bulk storage space under the V-berth.

Sailboat Heart of Oak's GalleyMoving aft, the forward head is on port side with large shower stall with a seat aft of head.  There is storage under the seat and a towel locker outboard.  Next is the main salon which features a very large table with two drop-down leafs.  The table sits 6 comfortably.  Galley is open to main salon which makes it perfect for entertaining as the cook can chat with guests while cooking.  The galley is at the port aft end of main salon.  The freezer and fridge spaces (7 cubic feet of freezer and two 7 cubic foot fridges) as well as microwave are on the starboard aft end.

Sailing Vessel Heart of Oak's Salon Heart of Oak is a CSY walk over which means that from the main salon you go up through the cockpit and down into the aft cabin.  This makes for a very private arrangement if you have visitors or if there is more that just one couple cruising on the boat.  In the aft cabin there is a huge aft bunk which allows you to sleep either fore and aft or athwart ships.  The aft head is on the port side of the aft cabin and has a shower.

The nav station is on the starboard side of the aft cabin and is verySailing Vessel Heart of Oak's Cockpit convenient to the helm.  The cockpit is covered by a fiberglass bimini which was professionally built in Colombia.  It has a wood core so the sun's heat does not penetrate it. The bimini is very strong and easily supports a 250 pound person.  There are roll-down Sunbrella sides with plastic windows for those rainy days and can be used under sail.  There are also shade awnings which can be rigged from both sides of the bimini down to the life lines and another which can be rigged to the aft end of the bimini.  There is a large swim platform which is not only very functional but pleasing to the eye and blends in with the boat's lines.  This is a very convenient way to board from the dinghy.  All in all, this is a very comfortable boat for either one or two couple's with one additional bunk in the main salon.  She is rigged for short handed sailing and one person can handle her with ease.

GENERAL COMMENTS

This vessel was purchased by the present owner in 1999.  From 1999 to 2001 the boat was completely restored.

  • The bottom was sanded down to gel coat and after six months on the hard had two coats of West system applied.
  • All new teak and holly cabin soles from stem to stern with the entire main cabin sole comprising of storage hatches
for the many spares which go with the boat.
  • All interior bulkheads, vertical surfaces etc. have been professionally recovered with a pale yellow laminate.
  • The original Plexiglas sliding cupboard doors have been replaced with teak diamond patterned sliding doors.
  • The starboard main salon area was gutted to the hull and rebuilt, eliminating the upper fold-up bunk and converting the bottom from a pull-out double to a single. This allowed room for tons of storage cupboards behind the backrest and a beautiful entertainment center above and behind the backrest. The entertainment center has a TV which slides out and swivels, DVD player, stereo and VHS player as well as a bar area and CD storage.
  • The original laminate covered main salon table was rebuilt and covered with extra thick teak veneer.
  •  The Ceilings and backing plywood in the V-berth were removed and replaced with the new ceilings being installed edge to edge with no gap between them.
  • V-berth has had extra access hatches installed under the bunk to create much additional storage.
  • The forward head has a separate shower stall with large seat.  Counter and sink in forward head are custom Korian new in 2001.
  • The starboard water tank has been replaced with an aux 30 gal fuel tank and a 24 cu ft storage space.
  • The ceilings and backing plywood in the aft cabin were replaced in the same manner as the V-berth.
  • The original nav table has been replaced with a desk type nav table with opening top for chart storage and a bench seat with storage under.
  • SSB is mounted in an overhead cabinet above the nav station.
  • Original bookshelves replaced with four teak shelves with front rails.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

This is probably one of the nicest CSY 44 in existence.  Her systems and sails are in excellent shape and she sails like a dream.  She was outfitted with the intention of circumnavigating the world but owner's plans have changed.  This boat has to be seen to truly appreciate her, this is a true case of turn key.  She's ready to sail.

Work is for those who cannot sail - go for the gusto!!! Come to paradise!!

Heart of Oak

by David Garrick, 1759

Come cheer up my lads, it's to glory we steer

To add something more to this wonderful year

To honor we call you, as free men, not slaves

For who are so free as the sons of the waves

Heart of oak are our ships

Heart of oak are our men

We always are ready

Steady, boys, steady

We'll fight and we'll conquer,

again and again

Our worthy forefathers, let's give them a cheer

To climates unknown did courageously steer

Through oceans to deserts, for freedom they came

And dying, bequeathed us their freedom & fame
